A stowaway has been found dead in the landing gear of an Air France plane flying from Cote d’Ivoire to Paris.
The airline confirmed on Twitter that the body, reported by local media to be a child, was in the well of the landing gear of flight AF703 from Abidjan, which touched down at Charles de Gaulle Airport on January 7.
The tweets described the person as a “stowaway” on the Boeing 777 and said an investigation was underway.
The BBC reported that the body was found at 6:40am (local time), which is about half an hour after the flight’s scheduled arrival time.
The BBC reported that the National Gendarmerie said the child was of “African origin” but was not yet identified.
Such stowaway attempts are extremely rare and nearly impossible to survive, the official said.
Air France expressed its “deepest sympathy and compassion at this human tragedy”.
