Jack Vidgen has won over plenty of reality TV show judges and coaches over the years including The Voice‘s own Guy Sebastian. But now the Aussie has succeeded in impressing the toughest critic of all, music executive Simon Cowell, on America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
The spin-off series invites back contestants from Got Talent shows around the globe for the title of world champion along with a cash prize. Jack, who won Australia’s Got Talent in 2011 at the age of 14, sang ‘You Say’ by Lauren Daigle in his return to the franchise.
The performance was praised by all judges, with singer Aleesha Dixon noting his nerves early in the song but that his voice was “beautiful”.
“In a way you’ve had to re-find your voice and re-discover it but I honestly believe you’re in with a real shot, there’s something very endearing about you. Well done,” she said.
Comedian Howie Mandel told Jack that all he needed was “confidence” while supermodel Heidi Klum said, “Sounds to me like you can still do it buddy”.
But the highest praise came from music industry icon Simon, who thought Jack had the potential to deliver an even better performance.
“I think you have an extraordinary voice but that was way too safe,” he said. “I think you are way, way better than that so I’m hoping the superfans vote you through to the next round because there’s way more to come from you, way more.”
Unfortunately Jack’s journey on the show ended there when he was eliminated after losing the judges’ vote.
However Jack will be back in the spotlight soon when he competes for the chance to represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision. He has also released the single ‘I Am King I Am Queen’.
Jack made his return to singing on The Voice in 2019 at the age of 22 following a long break from performing after he fell out of love with music. He was coached by Guy Sebastian and made it all the way to the Finals.
