The Victorian government is using unprecedented powers to keep people safe, Premier Daniel Andrews has said, ahead of another horror bushfire day.
“We’ve never had a fire ground or a fire edge as big as this,” Mr Andrews said.
Text messages are being sent out to people in affected areas in Victoria’s east, urging people to leave if they were able.
The fire spread predictions include almost all of East Gippsland as far west to Myrtleford south of Albury-Wodonga.
The at-risk areas also include Towong, Mount Hotham, Bright, Omeo and Orbost.
Temperatures in eastern Victoria are expected to hit the high 30s.
And when the wind change comes through in the evening, the fire flank may become the fire front, Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp said.
“If you have got the text message, then if you can, you should leave,” he said.
