Nine’s risky move to bring Karl Stefanovic back to the Today show is already looking like a massive flop.
Ratings for the highly-publicised revamp of Nine’s flagging breakfast show have already slumped under the 200,000 mark nationally.
That was the disastrous ratings figure that seen as the reason why the network needed to cut Georgie Gardiner and Deborah Knight from the show and bring back Stefanovic with new co-host Allison Langdon.
After officially coming back on air last Monday, ratings went up for Stefanovic and Langdon’s debut with 225,000 viewers nationally tuning in along with 27,000 in Perth.
But just over a week later and the honeymoon period is already over for the controversial former Gold Logie winner and former 60 Minutes reporter.
On Monday this week, Today had just 185,000 watching nationally, according to OzTam’s 5-city Metro ratings, trailing Seven’s Sunrise which had 246,000 viewers.
In Perth the situation is even dire for Nine’s Today when only 14,000 people watched yesterday compared with 44,000 who tuned into Seven’s Sunrise.
That is triple the amount of people in Perth choosing to wake up with Sunrise over Today despite the endless coverage touting the new pairing of Stefanovic and Langdon.
That figure is even more of a red flag for Nine as more people in Perth were watching Today on Friday, January 3 than yesterday.
That is important to note as January 3 was the last day before Stefanovic’s apparent triumphant and it had an audience of 18,000 in Perth – almost 30 per cent more than the amount of people watching yesterday.
