A former employee of The Star casino said a gambling addiction “made [him] do bad things” when he decided to participate in a scheme to steal more than $90,000 worth of gaming chips last year.
Justin Ly, 23, was working as a casino gaming supervisor when he constructed a ruse with a patron, who was known to him, to cause dealers to pay out cash value chips to which they were not entitled.

Ly pleaded guilty on Thursday to 13 charges of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception at the Downing Centre Local Court, later saying he was “sorry” for his role in the fraudulent scheme conducted in August last year.
His co-accused, who can’t be named for legal reasons, did not appear in court because “he forgot the matter was listed” and was “at work”, the court heard.
