Two people were seriously injured on Friday night when a shipping container in their backyard south of Wollongong exploded.
Emergency services were called to the Oak Flats home at 7pm on Friday where a 46-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man had been badly burned. The woman, who was opening the container door when the explosion occurred, was flung back five metres by the force of the blast.
“Firefighters were initially faced with a large amount of destruction in a residential house,” NSW Fire and Rescue Inspector Chad Wallace told Nine News.
“Their intentions were also to support NSW Ambulance to render emergency first aid to … a couple that were burned as the result of a flash-type explosion from that rear shed.”
