American Sofia Kenin made the stunning admission that her own mother elected not to watch her Australian Open final victory.
Kenin pulled off a thrilling comeback to claim the Australian Open title when she defeated Garbine Muguruza, 4-6 6-2 6-2.
With scores tied at two games apiece in the deciding set, Kenin faced a 40-0 deficit on her own service game, but incredibly the American fought off three break points to secure it.
Spurred on by her previous service game, Kenin would go on to win 20 of the last 29 points to take out the final four games of the match to come out victorious.
But in her press conference after the match, she revealed her mum is simply too nervous to watch the action live.
The American admitted her mum finds out the results after the match, declaring it’s all “fine” she chooses not to tune in.
“No, no, they don’t watch. My mum cannot watch me,” Kenin said.
“Even if she knows the results that I won, she still won’t watch. I can see she’s still nervous. She doesn’t like watching. It’s fine.
“She’s been really stressed at home, very superstitious. Yeah, she’s just really happy.
“I told her I’m not going to be able to talk to you for hours, but at least you know that I won. I’m coming home, you can give me the biggest hug of your life.”
