A former teacher at a prestigious Melbourne school who preyed on boys in class and on camps has been jailed for sex crimes decades ago.
Trevor Alan Spurritt was found guilty of nine counts of indecent assault dating back to the 1970s against four boys after a trial in the Victorian County Court.
The 76-year-old was a maths teacher at Camberwell Grammar when he assaulted the four victims who were aged from 12 to 14 at the time.
The victims were assaulted at school camps in Victoria and Tasmania as well as “brazen” assaults in the classroom.
He was jailed for five years and eight months on Wednesday but must serve at least three years before he is eligible for parole.
A woman broke into sobs as the sentence was handed down and told Judge Patricia Riddell: “You’re cruel.”
