A heroic bystander has performed a dramatic citizen’s arrest on an alleged child molester carrying a backpack filled with toys and lollies.
Police allege the man, 68, spotted two children – aged four and six – playing in the front yard of their unit complex in Campsie, south-west Sydney, on Wednesday at 6.30pm.
The accused paedophile allegedly lured the children in by offering them lollies and then started filming them before sexually touching one of the kids.
A Good Samaritan spotted the elderly man and pinned him to the ground until police arrived and arrested him.
The elderly man allegedly had a bag filled with lollies, soft toys and a drone
Police were seen swarming the elderly man as he lay face-down on the grass in the front yard.
In footage, which was shared on social media, a police officer can be seen thanking the Good Samaritan.
The alleged paedophile can be heard groaning in the footage as he lay on the ground before the man who caught him yelled for him to stay down.
‘You f***ing mutt. Face down you piece of s**t,’ the man can be heard saying.
The elderly man’s bag was filled with lollies, soft toys and a drone.
The 68-year-old man was riding a bike when stopped and spoke to the two children out front of the home
He also allegedly had a digital camera with an inappropriate picture of a child sitting on a towel.
‘He has everything, from lollies, plush toys and drones. Everything that can possibly appeal to any age child – he has it,’ the hero bystander said in the footage.
‘This is how he lures kids.’
The man was taken to Campsie Police Station and hit with a string of charges including producing child abuse material, intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years and two counts of common assault.
He was charged with two counts of filming persons’ private parts without consent and entering enclosed land without lawful excuse.
