It is believed he contracted the virus while on-board a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that docked in Sydney last week.
Queensland Health on Wednesday confirmed the Toowoomba man’s death on the state’s Darling Downs.
He had a “serious underlying medical condition before contracting the virus”, the department said in a statement.
“Queensland Health offers its sincere condolences to his family. The man’s family remains in isolation as close contacts.”

Australia’s fourth victim, and Queensland’s first, was a 77-year-old woman from the Sunshine Coast who died in Sydney following an interstate flight. According to Queensland Health, she also had an underlying medical condition.
The sixth person to die was an 86-year-old man, who passed away in a Sydney hospital on March 17, NSW Health said.
An 81-year-old woman passed away in a Sydney hospital on March 19, becoming the seventh victim after close contact with confirmed case linked to Ryde Hospital, NSW Health confirmed.
